The
education Commission recommended to establish vocational
education institute for rural youths. The commission
suggested that such institution named as "Agricultural
Polytechnics" |
1966-72 |
Indian
Council of Agricultural Research mooted the idea
establishing Krishi Vigyan Kendras (Agricultural Sciences
Centers) as innovative
institutions for imparting vocational training, practicing
farmers & field level extension functionaries. |
1973 |
ICAR
constituted a committee in 1973 headed by Dr. Mohan Sinha
Mehta of Seva Mandir, Udaipur(Rajasthan) for working out a
detailed plan for implementing this scheme(KVK) |
1974 |
The
first KVK was established in 1974 at Pondicherry under the
administrative control of the Tamil Naidu Agricultural
University |
1976-77 |
The
Planning Commission approved the proposal of the ICAR to
establish 18 KVK's during the fifth Five Year Pan. |
1979 |
Twelve
more KVK's were approved by the Governing body (GB) of the
Council in 1979 & they were established in the same year
from Agricultural Produce Cess Fund (AP Cess) |
1981 |
Fourteen additional KVK's were approved by the GB of the
Council in 1981, which were established during 1982-83
from AP Cess Fund. |
1984 |
Government of India , a High Level Evaluation Committee on
KVK was constituted by the ICAR in 1984. The
planning Commission approved scheme of ICAR established 44
new KVK's during the Sixth Plan. |
1992-93 |
22 KVK's were established
during the 7th
Five Year Plan.
The planning commission further approved 74 new KVKs. |
1992-97 |
Seventy Eight new KVK's were approved during the Eight
Five Year Plan. |
